Thanks to a total Team effort, Siemens PLM Software was recently recognized for its leadership in supporting Historically Black Engineering Schools for the 3rd consecutive year, ranking 3rd among fortune 500 corporations and US government agencies e.g. GM, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Sprint, Procter & Gamble, Shell, Xerox, General Electric, IBM, Intel, Johnson Controls, UPS, Texas Instruments, Rolls-Royce, United Technologies, Caterpillar, The Boeing Company, 3M, Exxon Mobil, Ford Motor Company, etc. Siemens PLM Software improved its' ranking from 5th place last year and remains the only PLM Company to receive this Honor.

Siemens PLM Software is proud to sponsor three teams in the FIRST (For Inspiration in Science and Technology) Robotics Competition. This event joins engineers from sponsor companies with local schools to design and build a robot to compete in a high-adrenalin contest fielding 2000 teams worldwide. The competition incorporates the excitement of a sporting event to introduce high school students to engineering.
Sponsored in part by the former Siemens PLM Software in June 1998, the MTA provides top quality skills and training for at risk youth and displaced workers in the areas of manufacturing and machining. The commitment of the partnership is to be a career recourse for disadvantaged young adults and laid off or underemployed workers.

Founded in 1976 with a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, by Detroit area engineers, the organizations mission is to to increase the number of historically under-represented minority students (African American, Hispanic, Native American) who are motivated and prepared academically to pursue careers in engineering, science, and mathematics related fields.
Programs include the organizations' Saturday & Summer Program, Job Preparation Institute and College Prep Program.
Achievements of the programs include the Design Detroit's Future campaign where students participate in a 4 week summer program that highlights topics including neighborhood land use, Detroit urban design & architecture, community planning and transportation planning.
AMIE is a non-profit organization created to provide a proactive approach to fostering diversity as an essential business strategy. This resulted in the 1992 Abbott Laboratories coalition of representatives and engineers from Fortune 500 companies and nine Historically Black Colleges and Universities who see that diversity in the workforce is a competitive advantage. The organization's mission is to expand corporate and academic alliances and implement and support programs to attract, educate, graduate and place under-represented minority students in engineering careers.

PhAME is a locally based, manufacturer-led initiative designed to support regional economic development and workforce development in the Greater Philadelphia region. Through its focus on stemming the shortage of qualified manufacturing workers in the Delaware Valley area, PhAME provides this support by delivering specialized skills training in the field of computer-based precision machining and manufacturing technology to young people and individuals in career transition.
PhAME offers interested men and women the chance to gain the requisite manufacturing knowledge and capabilities -- and their economic benefits -- through an intensive, challenging, multi-level group of workplace education and direct skills training programs. PhAME targets individuals with either a high school diploma or equivalent who possess Basic English and mathematics skills and wish to pursue career opportunities in manufacturing. Admissions testing and a personal interview determine the appropriate level for an applicant. All Candidates are required to pass a drug-screening test. PhAME Candidates usually range from 18 to 40 years of age. PhAME's Candidate population is approximately 70% male and 92% minority. Successful Candidates are those who possess the motivation, initiative, and desire to pursue an education in conjunction with skill training for a viable, productive long-term career path in manufacturing.

The Stone Soup for the World website serves as a global education resource for grassroot leaders in schools, churches and organizations in 120 communities around the world. The Stone Soup Leadership Institute is the learning-in-action arm of the Stone Soup Foundation, a 501(c) 3 international, non-profit education organization founded in 1997. The Institute provides technical assistance and training to organizations to use the Stone Soup for the World educational curriculum to develop public/private partnerships that build healthier communities and a healthier world. The dramatic and heartening stories in Stone Soup for the World immediately immerse readers in other cultures and countries, and engage them in the struggles of real heroes who fight battles against violence, disease and hunger within their individual lives, their communities and nations.

The Stone Soup Education Campaign was developed in partnership with major corporations like NationsBank and national organizations like Christmas in April. To demonstrate the Stone Soup message -- we can do more together than anyone could alone -- people collaborated to create meaningful service projects that are having a lasting impact on their communities. Partnerships were developed with other organizations like Volunteer Centers across the country (including several state and local coordinators for the Presidents' Summit for America's Future) to connect people who want to build a better world - and to maximize the campaign's impact.
The Stone Soup for the World educational curriculum is a great tool for Volunteer Centers who want to inspire, train, motivate and retain their volunteers. It's especially helpful for Volunteer Centers who want to engage teens and contribute to the exciting field of service learning.
